Late Arrivals/Early Release/Dismissal Procedures

Administrative Discretion: Students shall not be released from school at times other than regular dismissal hours except with the permission of the principal. We ask that appointments be scheduled outside of school hours as much as reasonably possible. Unless the principal has granted approval because of extenuating circumstances, a student will not regularly be released before the end of the instructional day. No student may be excused during school hours for private lessons of any nature.

3:20pm Dismissal - ECSE/PreK

3:25pm Dismissal - Kinder, 1st & 2nd Grade

3:30pm Dismissal - 3rd, 4th & 5th Grade

Review the following carefully

1. Early Release Deadline: All early releases must occur before 2:30 pm. Students will not be released after this time and will instead follow their normal dismissal between 3:20–3:30 pm.

2. Early Release Process: A government/state issued photo ID is required from all pick-up designees. For approved early releases, students will only be called from class once a parent/guardian is physically present in the front office. This helps preserve valuable instructional time and prevents extended waiting. Plan accordingly.
3. Changes to Dismissal Routine: Any changes to your child’s normal dismissal (e.g., not attending aftercare, being picked up instead of walking) must be communicated with both the teacher and the school office before 12:00 pm (noon). While we understand that plans can change unexpectedly, please be patient as we work to ensure your child is safely in the correct location.

How to submit changes

Email both your child’s teacher and Ms. Carbajal with the subject line: “Dismissal Change for [Student’s Name]”. You will receive a quick “Thank you” response to confirm we have received your request.

Late Arrivals/Early Releases/Dismissals

T99/Partial Day Absence - For truancy purposes, any time a student has a partial day unexcused absence of 20 or more minutes in duration. For example, if they arrive excessively tardy or if they are picked up early without submitting a healthcare note. Healthcare notes to excuse late arrivals & early releases must be submitted within 3 days of a student's return to school in person or directly to GHAttendance@dallasisd.org.
